Opposition website confirms Mousavi and Rahnavard under house arrest
MirHosein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard

After days of conflicting reports regarding the whereabouts of MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi and their wives Zahra Rahnavard and Fatemeh Karroubi, Kaleme opposition website is reporting that its investigation has found that Mousavi and Rahnavard are in their home under house arrest.

Kaleme confirms it had received reports last week that the opposition leaders had been transferred to Heshmatieh Prison. The website blames the speculations that followed on the government’s refusal to give any information on how the leaders were being treated, as well as the government’s refusal to take official responsibility for the leaders’ situation.

Kaleme adds that no official government body has yet taken responsibility for putting the Mousavi and Karroubi households under house arrest or for the lack of official legal proceedings against the leaders in violation of their citizen rights.

MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi along with their wives have been completely cut off from any outside contact since they rallied protesters to join a march of solidarity with the recent Arab uprisings.

While the head of the judiciary as well as the Guardian Council had announced that the opposition leaders would no longer be permitted to make public statements and would be kept incommunicado, Iran’s foreign minister said last week that the leaders and their wives were in fact under no restrictions and absolutely free to contact their children,

So far their children have not been able to see or make any contact with their parents since the house arrest was first put into place over two weeks ago.
