Hadi Bahmani, 17, was killed on Tuesday night, July 20, 2021, during demonstrations in Izeh. Bahmani was a teenager from the village of Susan in the city of Izeh. He had come to Izeh as a seasonal worker.

Since July 15, widespread protests began in various Arab majority towns and cities in Khuzestan and quickly spread to other regions in the province. Security forces have killed and injured dozens of protesters. There are several reasons for the unrest, including a water shortage, poverty, and discrimination. The protests have spread to Ahvaz, Susangard, Izeh, Dezful, Behbahan, Mahshahr, Abadan, and many other cities in Khuzestan province.

From the very first night of the protests, security forces resorted to violence to suppress the protesters. In multiple pieces of videos e of the Khuzestan protests, several protesting citizens were shot and wounded by security forces.

The number of casualties in the Khuzestan protests is still unknown. According to human rights activists and Zamaneh sources, at least nine protesters have been killed by security forces. Meysam Echresh, Farzad Frisat (Al-Frisawi), Mohammad Abbas Al-Kanani, Mohammad Abdullahi, Mohammad Kroushat, Mustafa Maniawi, Qassem Kheziri, and Bahmani were killed in the recent unrest in Khuzestan. Official accounts have not yet announced these names.

In an interview with Zamaneh, a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that security forces had killed Bahmani in Izeh. According to this source, Bahmani was only 17 years old and was killed on Tuesday night, July 20, 2021, during the protests in Izeh.

“It was crowded, and they would not let me see him, well, but a bullet hit him in the chest. The body has not yet been returned to the family,” the source told Zamaneh. According to the same source, Bahmani’s body was transferred to Ahvaz for an autopsy.

The source told Zamaneh that Bahmani was a student and the second child in his family. Bahmani was from the village of Susan near the city of Izeh and had come to Izeh for work. “He came to the city from the village and worked as a plasterer,” explained the source.

A second source told Zamaneh that Bahmani was shot dead by two bullets at around 9 pm on Tuesday in downtown Izeh, where the protests took place.

According to reports, several people have also been arrested within the last six days.

The ethnic Arab minority residents in Khuzestan have been complaining of discrimination for decades.
