Iran’s Department of the Environment reports that 49,000 tons of residential garbage is produced daily across the country, and only seven percent of that is separated.
IRNA reported on Thursday April 21 that according to the Water and Soil office of the Department of the Environment, 93 percent of the waste produced across the country is being buried in landfills without being properly separated and treated.
The spokesman emphasized the hazardous nature of untreated and unseparated waste disposal and highlighted the need to immediately implement plans to facilitate the separation and recycling of garbage across the country.
Recycling has been generally absent from Iran’s waste-disposal system, making the accumulation of garbage a serious concern for the current administration.
