Iranian missile test divides eastern, western countries

Russia and China have refused to endorse U.S. and European claims that the recent missile test by Iran violated UN resolutions.

The U.S., Britain, France and Germany called on the UN Security Council sanctions committee on Wednesday October 22 to investigate Iran’s test launch of a missile on October 10, 2015.

The United States has stressed that it believes the test may have violated UN Resolution 1929, which prohibits Iran from launching ballistic missiles that are capable of delivering nuclear weapons. Russia and China say they are not prepared to back that determination.

Russian Ambassador Vitally Churkin said: “We need to look into technical details and then, of course, take into account the political circumstances. One has to be professional about it. It’s not a sensational kind of issue.”
Iran and the six world powers reached a deal last July to end years of nuclear disputes, and in exchange for a series of concessions by Iran regarding its nuclear program, the 5+1 have agreed to drop all sanctions against Iran.
