Teachers who were arrested in Tehran on July 23 when security forces broke up their protest have now been released, according to the International campaign for Human Rights in Iran.
The teachers had planned a silent protest for Wednesday morning in front of Parliament to demand better wages and benefits, and some of them had traveled from various parts of the country.
However, security forces did not allow them to gather and some of them were even reportedly arrested according to ILNA.
The news of the arrests was also confirmed by Teachers Association spokesperson Mohammad Rezakhah.
Tehran MP Ali Motahari questioned why security forces confronted the teachers, who, he noted, have a constitutional right to protest.
Teachers across the country have been staging numerous protests and demonstrations against their “unfair wages” in the past year.
