No major progress reported as nuclear talks break off

Nuclear talks in Geneva between the Iranian and 5+1 delegations ended without any report of concrete progress.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters at the end of the talks: “During the past three days, we had serious, beneficial and constructive talks with the 5+1 countries but we still have a long way to go in order to reach a final deal.” He added, however, that some progress was made on some issues.

Zarif went on to say that a final deal requires agreement on every issue under dispute. He added that the talks will continue next week on the sidelines of the Human Rights Council session.

IRNA quoted one of the Iranian diplomats saying the talks will continue on Monday March 2 in Geneva.

The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Akbar Salehi, and U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz were present at the round of talks that just ended.

The parties are supposed to reach a comprehensive deal by July 1.
