Judiciary urged to let jailed journalist get medical care

Ninety-six social and political activists have issued a letter urging the Islamic Republic judiciary to take the necessary steps for the release of jailed journalist Saeed Razavi Faqih.

The letter highlights Razavi Faqih’s need for immediate medical care and reminds the judiciary of its responsibility for his health and safety.

The letter indicates that the minimum expected from the authorities is to provide Razavi Faqih with sick leave so he can receive necessary treatments.

Last month, opposition websites reported that Razavi Faqih was transferred to hospital for heart surgery. The report indicated that he remained chained to his bed during the hospital stay and was prohibited from receiving any visitors.

The Kaleme website has reported that the authorities have severely “isolated” a number of political prisoners and they are not allowed any form of contact.

Saeed Razavi Faqih was arrested in March of 2014 during a speech at a meeting of Reformists in Hamadan.
