Iran’s Supreme Leader said in a speech on Thursday November 27 that Iran is prepared to accept “fair and reasonable arrangements” in the nuclear negotiations.
The parties in the nuclear negotiations have agreed to extend the deadline for reaching a final deal to July 1.
Ayatollah Khamenei, in a meeting with a number of Basij members, said he was not against extension of the deadline, adding that if the negotiations do not reach a resolution, “the U.S. will have the most to lose, not Iran.”
He expressed his support for the Iranian negotiating team, saying it is “active, serious, caring, strong and logical” and that unlike the opposing party, “it does not change its stance each day.”
He accused the U.S. of assuming contradictory tones in its letter and speeches.
There has been a report of the U.S. president writing secret letters to the Iranian Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said: “Unlike the United States, if the negotiations do not reach a resolution, for us it will not be the end of the world because we have a solution which is called the Economy of Resistance.”
The timeline and mechanism for lifting the international sanctions on Iran is reportedly one of the contentious issues in the negotiations.
Ayatollah Khamenei added: “If they speak logically and set up fair and reasonable arrangements, we will accept them. But Iran, from top to bottom, to every one of its people and officials will resist excessive demands.”
The level of uranium enrichment and the fate of the Arak heavy water facility are purportedly two other points of contention in the nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1.
Iran has repeatedly maintained that its nuclear program is peaceful, and Ayatollah Khamenei has announced that nuclear weapons are against the fundamental principles of Islam.
