Judiciary says Qavami case still ongoing

Iranian Judiciary's first deputy announced on Monday November 10 that a verdict in the case of Ghoncheh Qavami has not yet been issued. Qavami was among the women who were briefly arrested for trying to enter a stadium to watch a volleyball game in July. She was rearrested soon after her release and charge with "propaganda against the regime."

Earlier Qavami's lawyer had told the media that the verdict had been issued but the officials were refusing to serve it on the accused.

Golamhossein Mohseni Ejei, speaking for the judiciary, announced today that the file is still being processed and no fianl  verdict has yet been issued against Qavami.

Qavami's family had announced earlier that their daughter is on a hunger strike in prison to protest her undetermined state.

Meanwhile Iran's bid to host the Youth Volleyball Championship was denied by the World Federation of Volleyball yesterday. There has been no official statement by the federation linking the denial to the treatment of Ghoncheh Qavami.

Iranian judiciary has said previously that the charges against Qavami are not related to sports.
