Iran began negotiations with the European countries of Germany, France and the UK today, September 11, in Vienna.
IRNA reports that the talks are aimed at “obtaining confirmation about the peacefulness of Iran’s nuclear program” and “establishing the appropriate background to reaching a final resolution in the nuclear negotiations.”
Deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi led the Iranian delegation in these talks and, before they began, he was quoted as saying: “If the opposing parties act in good faith and refrain from unreasonable demands, these talks will reach a culmination.”
The Iranian delegation also met with U.S. representatives on September 4 and 5 as an extension of the talks that are being held between Iran and the 5+1 representatives on the same matter.
The next round of talks between Iran and the world powers is scheduled to take place on September 18 in New York prior to the meeting of the UN General Assembly.
