Tehran police to enforce Ramadan fasting rules
Restaurants shut down

Greater Tehran’s Police Chief announced on Sunday June 29 that with the commencement of the month of Ramadan, his forces will respond to public displays of eating and smoking.

Muslims fast from dawn to dusk throughout the month of Ramadan, which means they must refrain from eating food, drinking water and smoking.

ISNA reports that if any passengers or drivers are seen breaking fast, their cars will be seized.

According to the report, officers in police cars and on motorcycle will be responsible for spotting public displays of eating, drinking and smoking during the month of fasting.
Restaurants, cafes and food-service outlets will be shut down if they are found to be offering food during the day.

Citizens are also encouraged to tip off police about any infractions of the regulations specific to the month of Ramadan.

Earlier, the head of Iran’s security forces, Esmail Ahmadi Moghaddam, said that confronting those who violate the regulations for the month of Ramadan is one of the force’s priorities.
