The Iranian embassy in Germany has called on German beer company Gaffel to stop the production and distribution of beer bottles labeled with the Iranian flag.
IRNA reports that the Iranian embassy has written to the company with a demand to cease production of the bottles featuring the country’s flag. Gaffel management responded that they did not know the flag included any religious symbols and they did not intend to offend the Islamic Republic’s religious and moral values.
Gaffel’s latest marketing plan includes producing beer bottles with flags of the countries participating in the FIFA World Cup.
Iran’s flag on the Gaffel beer bottle was first noted and slammed by conservative Iranian MP Hamid Resai, who referred to it as “desecration of the sacred Islamic Republic flag and the name of Allah.”
