Iran’s soccer team failed to advance to the next round in the FIFA World Cup soccer competition in Brazil. On Wednesday, Iran lost 3 to 1 to Bosnia; meanwhile. Nigeria lost 3 to 2 to Argentina. Nigeria’s earlier victory over Bosnia and the draw in its game with Iran means that it will advance to the next round in this group along with Argentina, while Bosnia and Iran will be eliminated.
The Iranian team had shown great promise in their game with Argentina, losing only at the last minute with a goal by Argentina’s left-footed star, Lionel Messi.
It is not clear whether Iran’s Portuguese coach, Carlos Queiroz, will remain with the team. After the game with Bosnia, he told reporters that although he is prepared to remain with the team, he has not received a firm offer from Iran’s Football Federation.
