Iranians celebrate strong performance at World Cup

Iranian president congratulated Iran’s National Soccer team for their excellent performance at the FIFA World Cup, and reports from Iran indicate that Iranians took to the streets of Tehran to celebrate the strong performance of their team against Argentina on Saturday.

Although Iran lost the game with the last minute goal by Lionel Messi, the Iranian team, regarded as the obvious underdog against the powerhouse Argentina, surprised all expectations blocking every attack in the first half and even raised hopes of a possible victory in the second half with several strong strikes against the Argentine goal.

“Although the result of the game took a turn at the last minute, the beautiful game you played for ninety minutes and your hope for victory made me proud,” President Rohani as quoted as saying.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also expressed pride at the performance of the National Team saying: “Our boys in Brazil made us proud tonight.”

Iran still has a chance to advance to the next stage of the World Cup games if it can obtain a win against Bosnia.
