Maryam Shafipour’s prison sentence was reduced to five years in the appeals court, her lawyer reports. Mahmoud Alizadeh told IRNA that Shafipour was sentenced to a seven-year suspended term in the Branch 15 Revolutionary Court, and on appeal the term was reduced to five years.
The charges against Shafipour were listed as “collusion and assembly against national security and propaganda against the regime.”
Shafipour was part of Mehdi Karroubi’s election campaign in 2009. Last year she was summoned by Evin Court and was held in solitary confinement for 67 days.
Shafipour, who was studying agricultural engineering in Qazvin, has also been expelled from university for her activism.
