Iranian artworks sell at Tehran auction

The third Tehran Auction was held at a Parsian Hotel on May 30, yielding more than 130 billion rials from the sale of 90 artworks.

Iranian stage actor Reza Kiyaiyan hosted the auction. The highest bid went to a piece by Sohrab Sepehri from his trees collection; it had been expected to catch anywhere between six and eight billion rials but it ended up going for twice that amount to a collector in Canada.

In the second Tehran auction last July, 72 pieces were sold for over 65 billion rials, which would put them almost at par with this year’s sales once inflation is considered.

Earlier, Iranian Culture and Guidance Minster Ali Jannati proposed inviting Christie’s to hold an auction on Kish Island. However, there has been greater support for replenishing local auctions.
