Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Istanbul today Monday May 26 and met with the EU foreign policy chief for unofficial talks.
The Mehr News Agency reports that Catherine Ashton is also invited to attend a dinner at the Iranian consulate in Istanbul Monday night.
The unofficial meeting is aimed at “examining the progress of the negotiations”, and according to Mehr, Zarif and Ashton are looking at summing up the negotiations so far before moving to the next round of talks in Vienna. The last round of talks did not yield any specific results as the parties now move toward drafting a final agreement.
The 5+1 delegation and Iran’s nuclear negotiating team are set to meet on June 16 in Vienna.
