The young Iranians who were arrested in Tehran for making their own online video for Pharrell Williams’ song “Happy” have been released.
Reports from Iran indicate that the detainees were released on bail.
In an Instagram message, Reyhaneh Taravati, one of the dancers in the video, reported her release and thanked Pharrell Williams and all those who were concerned for them.
Yesterday, the Tehran Police Department announced that it had arrested all the people involved in the making of the “Happy” video in Tehran.
The police claimed the detainees were “duped” by the video maker, who had told them it would never be posted on the internet.
The arrests triggered widespread criticism from around the world, and even President Hassan Rohani’s Twitter account reprinted his message from last year in English saying happiness is our people’s right.
