Two hundred reed-cutters from the Karoon Shooshtar Agro-Industry ended four days of protest in front of the Tehran Social Security Offices on Tuesday May 20, after officials promised to meet their demands.
ILNA reports that one of the workers informed them that the officials have promised to meet their demands with the next 10 days.
The announcement came after a meeting between a worker representative, the employer, the director general of the Social Security Organization, the ministers of labour and treasury, and the CEO of Agriculture Bank, as well as the MPs for Shooshtar and Dezfool MPs.
The government officials have accepted the workers’ demands to continue their insurance history, their protection under the Difficult and Hazardous Jobs Legislation, Execution of Job Classification and consistent payment of wages.
Agriculture Bank has also agreed to pay 600 billion rials, part of the one-trillion-rial debt owed in Social Security Insurance payments, and to resolve the issue of the workers’ insurance history.
The workers had been spending their nights on the Social Security Organization premises, refusing to leave until their demands were met.
