Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has publicly reflected on the nuclear talks that ended last week in Vienna without any pronounced outcome, writing on Twitter: “Agreement is possible but illusions must be put aside. The opportunity must not be missed as it was in 2005.”
The fourth round of nuclear talks ended on Friday in Vienna without any joint press conference from the parties. There reportedly has been no progress on commencing the drafting of the final agreement.
Last November, Iran and the 5+1 reached an interim deal to ease some sanctions while Iran rolls back some of its nuclear activities. A final comprehensive deal was to be drafted by July 2014.
There has been widespread resistance from the conservative factions of the Islamic Republic to conceding too much in the nuclear negotiations.
The Keyhan daily, a tribune of the far right, has expressed elation over the lack of progress in the talks.
