Prosecutor General Alireza Bavi Khoramshahr was attacked by unidentified assailants in Ahwaz.
Iranian media report that Bavi was injured by two gunshots as he was driving in his car in an Ahwaz neighbourhood.
The head of the Khuzestan Justice Department told ISNA that the assailants and their motive have not been identified.
Bavi was reportedly shot at with a shotgun with severe injuries to his face.
