A spokesman for Parliament’s Health Commission has spoken out against “official channels of smuggling medical equipment.”
Mohammad Hossein Ghorbani told Khaneh Mellat: “Many companies are buying medical equipment at one price in other countries and selling it at twice or triple the amount to hospitals and clinics.”
“In view of the behind-the-scenes hands that are involved in this process,” Ghorbani said, “one of the chief concerns of the Commission is to establish adequate supervision over the import of medical equipment.”
Many companies, according to Ghorbani, are circumventing regulations set by the Ministry of Health and are dealing with smuggled equipment instead.
He stressed, however, that the Health Commission is determined to put an end to “dealings in contraband medical equipment.”
