
Labour activist Davood Razavi reports that workers arrested on or around International Workers’ Day remain in custody.
Razavi told the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) that the two independent labour activists Jafar Azimzadeh and Jamil Mohammadi were arrested on April 30 in Tehran and have not been released so far.
He added that there have been no official statements regarding the charges against these activists.
The report also indicates that Maziar Gilaninejad, another labour activist, was arrested on May 2, and the authorities have not informed his family about his situation.
On May Day, known as International Workers Day, while President Hassan Rohani spoke of the workers’ rights to assemble and organize, 23 members union members and activists were arrested, including members of the Vahed Company Tehran Transit Bus Drivers Union.
Twenty of these detainees were released after a few hours but three still remain in custody.
