
Prominent Iranian Tar player and musician Mohammadreza Lotfi passed away on Friday May 2 in Tehran at the age of 68 after a long battle with cancer.
Lotfi launched the Sheyda music group in 1976 and was also one of the founders of the Chavosh Music Institute, which has produced some of the most prominent works in Iranian traditional music.
Lotfi had performed with many of Iran’s top musicians such as Mohammadreza Shajarian, Hengameh Akhavan and Shahram Nazeri.
Chehreh be Chehreh, Moamaye Hasti and Parvaze Esghe remain amongst Lotfi's most memorable works.
