“Executed” Iranian border guard may be alive after all
Jamshid Danaifar

Baqer Hosseiny, a member of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, says it has evidence that Jamshid Danaifar, the border officer who was kidnapped in February, is still alive.

Jashid Danaifar and four other border guards were abducted by the militant Sunni group Jeysh-ol-Adl at the Sistan-Baluchistan Province border with Pakistan in February. In March, the group announced it had executed Danaifar.

The group, which had been calling for the release of a number of its members allegedly imprisoned in Iran, released the other four Iranian border guards following mediation by a senior Iranian Sunni leader and members of the clergy.

Danaifar’s remains have not been returned to Iran so far. Now another member of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Nozar Shafii, says: “A strong scenario is that Danaifar is alive and being held in Pakistan and the abductors want to use him to make a big trade.”

He said: “Currently all government bodies including Parliament, the ministry of intelligence, the Supreme Council of National Security, the foreign ministry and others are working to release this Iranian national and return him to his family.”
