Thousands of protesters gathered in Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari Province to oppose the transfer of water to other regions.
Iranian media report that in a widespread gathering on Thursday April 17, protesters marched to the governor’s building and called for an immediate halt to the transfer of water to Behesht Abad and the Golab Tunnels.
The water-transfer projects, which are underway, are designed to take water from sources in Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari Province and transfer it to Isfahan and other provinces.
Protesters believe that the project will deplete water resources in the province and destroy regional agriculture.
Some sources have put the number of protesters at 25,000 people. Representatives of the province in Parliament were reportedly among the protesters.
The minister of power has been heavily criticized over the continuation of this project. and some MPs have called for his impeachment.
