Five deer in the Dasht-e Qanat region of Bordsir in Kerman province were killed by poachers this spring.
ISNA reports that a spokesman for the city’s Department of the Environment said their rangers pursued the poachers and arrested one of them, who identified the other two, allowing their capture as well.
The report indicates that the court has let the department confiscate their hunting weapons and the poachers are barred from acquiring weapons for the next 10 years. In addition, one poacher was sentenced to 91 days in jail and the other two were given six-month sentences.
Dasht-e Qanat is an open region of Iran and is home to a small herd of 10 to 12 deer, which means the poachers have destroyed half of the deer population in the area.
