Jailed Iranian labour activist Shahroukh Zamani is continuing his hunger strike and has now been refusing food for 35 days.
According to lawyer Naghi Mahmoudi, Zanmani has been on a hunger strike since March 7 to protest his transfer to Qezel Hessar Prison in Karaj and bring about his return to Rejai Shahr Prison.
Zamani’s health is said to be very concerning, and he has been taken to the infirmary on several occasions already; however, his letter to prison authorities remain unanswered.
The 49-year-old labour activist was arrested in Tabriz and, after 32 days of hunger strike, he was finally transferred from solitary confinement in the intelligence ministry office to Tabriz central prison.
He has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for “organizing anti-regime groups and propaganda against the regime.”
