Eleven people have been arrested in Qazvin Province and charged with theft, the head of Qazvin Security Forces announced.
The Fars News Agency quoted Mohammadreza Mirheydari saying that in the past two days, eleven individuals have been arrested for theft in the cities of Qazvin and Alborz, adding that many of them have previous criminal records.
Police Chief Esmail Ahmadi Moghaddam reported last month that theft across the country has risen by 20 percent in the past year.
The judiciary earlier had reported that theft was the most frequently prosecuted crime in the courts in 2012.
Experts have linked the growing incidence of theft to rising inflation and growing economic inequality in society.
