Two hundred workers from the Zagros Steel Factory gathered in front of the ministry of labour in Qaravah in Kurdistan Province to protest the closure of their factory.
Ali Akbar Hedayati, a workers’ representative, told ILNA that 274 workers have been thrown out of work by the closure, adding that the workers were not paid for the last four months.
Hedayati added that the workers have been pleading their case in front of various government bodies since August but so far they have failed to draw attention to their demands.
In recent years, rapidly rising inflation brought on by the scrapping of government subsidies and further exacerbated by international sanctions has seriously damaged Iranian industry, leading to widespread plant closures across the country.
