Heinz Fischer
Austrian President Heinz Fischer has accepted an invitation by the Islamic Republic to travel to Iran, his office announced on Wednesday April 2.
Reuters reports that the president’s office has confirmed acceptance of the invitation but the date has not yet been set.
Other diplomatic sources say the date depends on the progress of the nuclear talks, adding that the president will probably be accompanied by a number of trade and business leaders.
The Austrian foreign minister will also travel to Iran in the coming month.
Earlier visits by a delegation from the European Parliament and Catherine Ashton, the EU foreign policy chief, turned controversial over meetings with civil society activists.
