Iran’s Supreme Leader pardoned 920 convicts on Monday March 31 on the occasion of Islamic Republic Day.
ILNA reports that Ayatollah Khamenei approved the pardons suggested in a letter by the head of the judiciary, Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani.
The report indicates that a list of eligible prisoners was prepared by the judiciary’s Amnesty and Pardon Commission.
March 31 is considered a landmark date in the history of the Islamic Republic as it marks when Iranians voted for the Islamic Republic system with an overwhelming majority in March of 1979.
