Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have been enlisted to provide security in the Saravan region of Sistan-Baluchistan in southeastern Iran, the Fars News Agency reports.
The report indicates that Mohammad Ali Jafari, the Commander in Chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), said on Friday March 28 that he had visited the region and his forces are now prepared to take on the mission handed to them.
According to Fars: “The IRGC mission includes a 300-kilometre stretch that will make conditions difficult for terrorist activities and saboteurs and terrorist groups and will promote the security of the region in collaboration with local tribes and residents.”
The IRGC has not made any comment so far about the abduction of five Iranian border officials and the killing of one of them last Sunday.
