The head of the Environment Protection Division of Kohgiloyeh and Boyerahmad Province announced on Wednesday April 26 that rangers in National Dena Park have apprehended a poacher who has been illegally hunting bears in Isfahan Samiram region.
IRNA reports that Jamshid Abdipour told reporters: “This illegal hunter arrived at National Dena Park yesterday afternoon to hunt, and during a chase, park rangers managed to apprehend him.”
The report indicates that officials confiscated a military weapon and 30 bullets, and the detainee’s companion escaped the scene.
The detained poacher allegedly hunted a mother bear in Isfahan Samiram region last year and later stabbed her two cubs to death. A video recording of the incident caused widespread outrage among wildlife activists in Iran.
The National Dena Park is home to more than 2,000 plant and 167 animal species across a 93-hectare area in Kohgiloyeh and Boyerahmad Province.
