Iranian MP Alireza Monadi has warned that the death of Lake Oroumiyeh will result in salt storms that would make the city of Tabriz uninhabitable.
The Cultural Heritage Website reports that Monadi warned that the lake is moving rapidly toward complete demise and all the talking has not yet yielded any results.
He stressed that rescuing Lake Oroumieyh needs to become a focus of government activity and a major article of the “economy of resistance.”
He added that expert reports indicate that 80 percent of the lake is already lost and within two to three years it will be completely gone.
President Hassan Rohani has indicated that the government has established a special task force to tackle the drying of Iran’s largest inland lake.
