EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton is scheduled to travel to Iran on March 8 for her first visit.
The Fars News Agency reports that Ashton will meet with Islamic Republic officials including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the following Sunday, and on Monday she will visit the city of Isfahan.
On the sidelines of the 68th UN General Council meeting in New York, the Iranian foreign minister invited Ashton, his counterpart in the nuclear negotiations, to visit Iran.
This is the first time Ashton will travel to Iran, marking an improvement in Iranian foreign relations.
