A 49-year-old Iranian man set himself on fire in Tubingen, Germany, and efforts to save him failed as he succumbed to the burns before reaching the hospital.
The Tubingen Tagblatt newspaper reports that police so far suspect that the suicide was planned.
The victim doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire in a square behind a Tubingen church building. The police report that his identification papers were badly damaged in the incident and investigations are underway to determine the victim’s identity and motive.
Some reports indicate that the reason for the self-immolation was the denial of his refugee claim after 10 years.
