Fifty workers at Chavar City in Ilam Province have been laid off from the petrochemical plant, the city’s Friday Mass Imam reported.
Mohammadjavad Eliasi told the Tasnim website that the move was inappropriate, especially since it was done just before celebrations to mark the anniversary of the Revolution.
He stressed that he has been visiting with top government officials in the city to return the workers to their positions.
Eliasi said morale is low in the city due to dire economic conditions.
