An Iranian MP representing Yazd spoke out on Sunday February 2 against the arrest of 28 mine workers in Ardkan.
ILNA reports that Saleh Jooshkar told Parliament that it is unacceptable to deal with the labour crisis at the Chadormalu mine by merely arresting workers.
He urged Parliament to recognize the difficult nature of the miners’ work and deal with their protests in a different manner.
ILNA has reported that the Ardkan governor said workers were arrested following complaints from management. The detainees are accused of encouraging workers to go on strike.
The workers have struck to protest the firing of their representative, Bahram Hassaninejad, who had championed workers’ grievances about unequal levels of pay.
