Iranian filmmaker Manijeh Hekmat has announced that on Saturday January 25, there will be a conference on environmental issues with participation from grassroots organizations, the Department of the Environment and other government officials.
ILNA reports that the arts community initiated the meetings with a letter to Massoumeh Ebtekar, the head of the Department of the Environment.
Ebtekar has reportedly responded to the initiative and called for a resolution to be drafted at this meeting.
Two hundred members of the arts and culture community have written to Ebtekar, donating their monthly benefits to be used for the protection of the environment.
Hekmat added that the ministers of power, oil, industry and mining will also take part in the conference.
She added that the gathering will be a launching point to form action groups to inform the public.
The gathering will take place in Pardisan Protected Park were recently a rare Iranian yellow deer was shot dead in what Ebtekar referred to as a symbolic action to deter protectionist efforts by the Department of Environment.
Ebtekar responded to the alleged threat saying the Department of Environment will not deterred by such threats.
