The appeals court of Ardebil Province has reduced the prison term given to environmental activist Ali Kheyrjou to six months in jail.
He had been sentenced to five years in jail with two of those years spent in exile in Kermanshah.
HRANA reports that Kheyrjou was arrested in the protests demanding government action to save the rapidly drying Lake Oroumiyeh.
The appeals court reduced the jail terms to six months and rescinded the exile.
Lake Oroumiyeh is disappearing at an alarming rate, and the government has not yet come up with any concrete plans to save Iran's largest inland lake.
