Iranians residing outside the country will no longer receive the government’s monthly benefit payments that now go to all families.
ILNA reports that the spokesman for the public works and budget commission announced that it is looking at cutting off the benefits paid out to 4.5 million Iranians who have Iranian birth certificates but reside outside the country.
The Iranian government began paying out regular benefits to households when its scrapped government subsidies on energy and food staples three years ago.
In the first stage, all households received payments regardless of their location or income. Now that those residing outside of the country have been excluded from receiving the benefit, in the next stage, the parliament will look at excluding high income households from receving the benefit.
