An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan on Thursday at 6:43 AM local time.
IRNA reports that one person was killed and about 20 people were injured, and local witnesses report that many houses have sustained serious damage and cracks. Residents are reportedly outside their homes, afraid of further building collapses.
Some residents have taken refuge in the local schools and some are in tents; however, falling temperatures at night put them in immediate need of blankets and other necessities.
