Seven hundred Iranians outside of Iran are facing the death sentence, according to Iranian authorities.
ISNA reports that according to the foreign ministry, there are 6,000 Iranians in foreign prisons and 700 of them are on death row.
In recent years, many Iranians have been charged with drug trafficking in Malaysia and Indonesia and were sentenced to death as a result.
Iranian human rights activists and the families of these prisoners have expressed concern regarding the lack of fair judicial proceedings, the dismal conditions of detention centres and prisons in these countries, and the ineffectiveness of the Islamic Republic foreign ministry in addressing the needs of these prisoners.
