Also, schools have cancelled gym and morning exercise classes until further notice.
Sand factories are also shut down while the air quality remains at alarming rates, the deputy governor of Tehran announced.
The city has urged the public to rely solely on public transportation.
Mobile emergency teams are being deployed in city squares in anticipation of health complications caused by air pollution.
Tehran has been facing ongoing air pollution problems from emissions, which are compounded by dust particles.
