Iran’s Department of the Environment reports that 46 leopards were killed in the past six years in Iran.
IRNA reports that the deputy head of Wildlife Protection said: “The leopard and its habitat are at risk of extinction.”
He added that the majority of the deaths were caused by road accidents and other incidents were caused by poisoned bait and human action.
He stressed that many projects carried out in the region do not consider the habitats of this endangered feline and cause irreparable damage that threatens the existence of this rare species.
He added that the Department of the Environment is trying to highlight the need to protect wildlife habitats as a part of any development in Iran.
