The head of international affairs for the Iranian Parliament has announced that Iran will participate in the Geneva 2 talks regarding peace in Syria.
The Khaneh Mellat website reports that Hossein Sheikoleslam, the head of international affairs, said: “Iran is participating in the talks without any conditions or prejudgements.”
Iran was not invited to the Geneva 1 talks regarding the conflict in Syria; neither was the Syrian government.
Sheikoleslam maintained that excluding the Syrian government from the first round of talks reveals that “forcing the Syrian government and people into military surrender has failed, and it is time to find an end to the crisis through political dialogue.”
The UN has set January 22, 2014 as the date for the Geneva 2 talks.
