Asghar Farhadi’s latest film, The Past, has been nominated for the best foreign language film at the Golden Globe Awards.
The nominees for the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on December 12.
Farhadi’s The Past will compete with: Blue is the Warmest Colour, the French film and winner of this year’s Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival; The Great Beauty from Italy, which won major awards from the European Film Academy; The Hunt by Danish filmmaker Tomas Vinterberg, and the Japanese animated film The Wind Rises.
The Past is Iran’s submission to the 2014 Academy Awards for best foreign language film, despite its French producer.
The leading actress in The Past, Berenice Bejo, won the Palme d’Or for the best actress at the Cannes Film Festival last May, and on Wednesday December 4, the National Board of Review recognized The Past as the best foreign film of the year.
