Hundreds of seasonal workers at the Haft Tapeh Agro-Industrial Company stopped work in protest starting Sunday December 8.
One of the workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told ILNA that they are protesting management’s failure to honour its promises of pay raises and other benefits.
The worker added that management had agreed to their demands during the visit they made to Tehran last year, but since then they have not lived up to their commitments, so the workers are now “sitting in the plantations” and waiting until they hear from management.
ILNA puts the number of striking workers at 650.
The head of the Khuzestan Province Workers House confirmed the strike by 650 reed cutters at Haft Tapeh, saying they are mainly calling for a pay raise and an equal level of insurance for all workers.
