Thousands of people gathered in protest in Chaharmahal Bakhtiyari to challenge the transfer of Zayandeh Rood River water to Kashahn through the Golab 2 Tunnel.
IRNA reports that a human chain formed along the Zayandeh River and historic Zaman Khan Bridge, with five thousand people holding up banners calling for scientific and expert handling of the water resource.
The region’s MP in Parliament had already warned that the unmeasured transfer of water from Charmahal Bakhtiyari Province could have an irreparable impact on the region.
The Golab 2 Tunnel, which is soon to be launched, will transfer water from the Zayandeh River to factories and industries in Yazd and Isfahan Provinces.
